DRAGON on Fire (2/10)

With the completion of the January 2010 sire summary, 54BS410 Kulp-Gen Dynasty Dragon—tops the Type list. DRAGON—who is currently +1.0 PTAT—is heating up the charts both in the U.S. and Europe where he was jointly sampled. New Generation Genetics President Dan Gilbert recently returned from a trip to view Dragon daughters in Austria and Switzerland and came away impressed, saying “Dragon’s daughters are extremely consistent with super udders, great feet and legs, strength and high components, especially fat.” Pictures of these daughters can both be found here on our website and on our Facebook page. Dan also notes that “Dragon’s European daughters were some of the best two-year-olds on their respective farms and most could have easily gone VG using the United States classification scorecard.”

Dragon daughters also impress U.S. breeders who are currently adding them to their milking herds. Marketing Manger Jake Hushon has seen 12 Dragon daughters across the country and says, “They remind me of a taller longer version of the TD’s. The cows work hard and have great udder attachments and correct teat placement.” Dragon is one of the only Brown Swiss bulls available that will improve all udder traits.

“Candid pictures” are posted on Dragon’s page and there will be additional photos available this spring and in the April newsletter.

For more information on the new Type specialist Dragon or any sire in our lineup, feel free to contact us at dan@brownswiss.com
or call (920)-568-0554.

New Generation Genetics leading the way in All-American Nominations (2/10)

FORT ATKINSON, WI (January 27, 2010)—The 2009 All-American Nominations have been released and New Generation Genetics’ bulls sired the most show winners. A total of 16 Nominations were captured by daughters of six different sires from the current line-up and one all-time great. This not only exhibits the superior quality of the bulls in the New Generation Genetics line-up, but also the diversity of the extensive sire list.

Following his previous year’s successes, LEGACY daughters led the way in All-American nominations, with 6 including 4 in milking form! LEGACY is available in Preferred Sex Semen and could be making future All-Americans in your herd.

Other New Generation Genetics bulls with multiple Nominations were DENVER and BONANZA, with 3 nominations each. BONANZA is a LEGACY son that is starting to make his mark in the show ring by siring high-type daughters with the added dairyness LEGACY brings to the pedigree. DENVER, the model of consistency, is still siring the type of daughters that excel in the milk string and the show ring.

The Italian longevity bull BEAMER sired one All-American nomination. The longevity of STARBUCK was demonstrated as the sire of an All-American nominated Component Merit cow. SOLUTION, a new addition to the active line-up in August sired one Nominated heifer. Up and coming Sire in Waiting GALAXY sired a Nominated milk cow, which is one of his first. Look for more to freshen this spring and make their way to the front of the class.

Base Change! Don’t Panic! (1/10)

Wow! A big drop in proofs!? It is easy to have that reaction, but in reality, we had an up-date to the base this run. What does this mean? For the last 5 years, we were ‘basing’ everything compared to animals born in 2000. With the base change, we go to 2005. Therefore, it is expected that progress has been made, so all bulls ‘roll back’ by the same amount. Changes by trait are summarized below:

A Diverse and Dominant Line-Up! (1/10)

New and #1 For Type
54BS406 DRAGON (Dynasty X Emerald x Preston) emerges as the #1 Type bull and is over 1 Point for Udder Composite. At +.08% fat and +.03% protein, he is a rare high Component Dynasty son.

Got Milk? New #1 Milk Bull
54BS410 ALLOY (Dynasty X Collection X Patrick) ramps up to the #1 spot, confirming what we see in the field...open rib milk wagons with booming rear udders and strong udder support.

Total Package
54BS374 VIGOR (President x Even x Preston) retains his #1 Net Merit rank, despite having his milk proof lowered due to inclusion of genomic information. This is despite still ranking the same in Switzerland where his proof is based. Watch for his development over the next several runs, as the 2nd crop is calving now. He still delivers impressive health and fitness traits, along with a +1.35 udder composite

Protein and More!
54BS456 Wonderment (Collection X Jade X Johnny D) is perhaps the most talked about bull in recent memory. Bred for type, he is delivering BIG TIME in the milking parlor! He now ranks #2 for protein (behind 54BS392 Pomere!), 4th for milk, #2 for fat and is tied for 2nd in type!

Better than Ever.
54BS316 TD (Tom X Ensign X Babaray) continues his assent, now ranking #3 for Net Merit and is +1.15 Udder composite. Unfortunately, a very limited amount of semen remains, so get him while you can!

The best of a great cow!
54BS415 SOLUTION (Collection x Snickerdoodle) is now the best son from this great cow. In fact, he is the only son to combine positive numbers for milk, type and udder composite. And, he is available in PREFERRED SEX!

Put it all together, and NGG offers the #1 type bull, (6 of the top 15) #1,3 and 4 milk bull. #1 and 3 Net Merit and the top 3 protein bulls! Contact us, and we will discuss which bulls best fit your needs!

Special Announcement (11/09)

54BS410 TWINKLE HILL DYANSTY ALLOY is now available in Preferred Sex Semen! ALLOY is steadily climbing up the charts and becoming a favorite for all breeders. NGG Fall Show Season Highlights (10/09)

With another show season nearly concluded, daughters sired by New Generation Genetics bulls made their presence known. At two of the largest state fairs—New York and Kentucky—LEGACY daughters won Grand Champion honors, with Round Hill Legacy Flyhi going on to named Supreme Champion in New York. The action heated up at fall shows where daughters of New Generation sires stood right near the top at the two largest National Shows: The All-American Dairy Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.

At the All-American Show, LEGACY continued his winning ways by having 4 daughters place in the top 5 of their class, including class winner Round Hill Legacy Flyhi in the tough 4-year-old class. DENVER is now making his mark on the farm and in the show ring, which was demonstrated by 5 of his daughters placing in the top 5, including two second-place milk cows and the winning spring yearling, Just Lin Denver Tahiti. Premium daughters once again stole the spotlight, with 5 females landing in the top 5, with 4 of these outstanding individuals placing in the top 3! Two young sires, FORSMAN and BONANZA, sired class winners in the heifer division. Other bulls that sired daughters in the top 5 included BONANZA, VIGOR, JOLT, DOCTOR, and STARBUCK.

At World Dairy Expo the best Brown Swiss in the country gathered for the outstanding two-day event to compete. This year represented one of the best Brown Swiss shows in history! LEGACY daughters sorted themselves to the top quite easily with 6 daughters placing in the top 5 of their respective classes. No stranger to the blue-ribbon circle, Brothers Three Legacy Wisp won the Jr. 3 year-old class and for the first time ever a Brown Swiss captured the Supreme Champion of the Kingsmill II Futurity, honors Wisp also took home. LEGACY was the runner-up for Premier Sire and will look to add daughters and look to run for that title next year. Bursting onto the scene in a big way was sire in waiting TOTAL who daughter Milk & Honey Total Truth ET was named Reserve Jr. Champion. The Reserve Intermediate Champion and winning Sr. 2 year old was sired by BEAMER. New Generation’s vast selection of bulls was prevalent and showed that the show winners can come from a variety of bulls that we offer. Nine different bulls sired daughters that placed in the top 5 at World Dairy Expo, including BONANZA, DENVER, Premium, SOLUTION, GALAXY, and STARBUCK.

Attention Fellow Brown Swiss Enthusiasts! (09/09)

After 3 successful "Cows, Culture and Cuisine" tours to Europe, the next planned tour is 2012. However, we are exploring an 'abbreviated' tour for this December, which we will call "Cow, Cuisine and NO Culture". What we mean is, an organized trip focusing on the best Brown Swiss, best breeders and best cuisine, and well, very little Culture!

This will be an intense trip, designed to see as many good Brown Swiss herds as possible. HOWEVER, the most important point is the inclusion of not only a major Brown Swiss show, but an A.I. daughter presentation, which routinely draws 3,000 people!

The 'Swiss Classic' is a Canton duel, where every Canton brings the best of the best. While selection for Grand is important, the points standings for each category are tabulated to determine the best breeding area. The Swiss Classic was started about 12 years ago, and in now considered one of the elite shows in all of Europe.

We are soliciting interest in a tour of this sort... a rough schedule would be:

Monday, December 14
Depart U.S.

Tuesday, December 15
Arrive in Zurich, Switzerland (note, loss of a day) and hit the ground running with farm visits!

Wednesday, December 16
Farm visits in Switzerland

Thursday, December 17
Farm Visits in Switzerland and Voralberg, Austria

Friday, December 18
"KB Daughter Show" This is the annual daughter show in Zug, Switzerland. This event attracts 3,000 breeders from Switzerland, as well as many international guests, from Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Slovenia, Romania, etc.

Saturday, December 19
This is the BIG SHOW! See great cows from all over Switzerland. It has had many important judges over the years...Garrison, Ziegler, and this year, for the very first time, our own... Dan Gilbert!

Sunday, December 20
Head back home!

If you are interested, or have any questions, please contact Dan Gilbert at dan@brownswiss.com or 920-568-0554.
We will need commitments by October 2nd.

For The First Time! (08/09)

August 2009 has been an exciting time in the Brown Swiss genetic evaluation world.  For the first time, GENOMIC ENHANCED evaluations are available for Brown Swiss bulls.  New Generation has taken the aggressive step to 'genotype' all our bulls, whether proven, in waiting or just being sampled.

While the results are only a tool in deciding which bulls to use, it is an important tool, which will be more important in the future.

For those wishing to use this tool, and in full disclosure, we have posted all of our genomic results on young bulls.  You can reach them through our Proof Page, or simply CLICK HERE>>

Genomic Reliability (08/09)

Wondering about the reliability of Genomic Proofs? The table below shows the reliability gains for Genomic Proofs over Parent Averages for Brown Swiss, Jersey and Holstein. As is clear in the table, Brown Swiss gains are impressive compared to Jersey, and not far behind Holstein. Future cooperation of all our Brown Swiss partners is essential to stay on pace with Holstein results.

Want to participate? Give us a call or email us today. We still need old bulls, young bulls, funds, and cooperation!

August Proof Run (08/09)

Finally, production information is available!

The first run with genomics incorporated resulted in some glitches, and in fact, we are still waiting on the official type file... all NGG bulls are now genomically tested, and therefore, that information enhances their standard proof. The same will be true for all our young bulls, who will now have a genomically enhanced Parent Average.

Top Spots!

54BS374 VIGOR, 54BS317 TD and 54BS392 POMERE are 1-2-3 on the Net Merit List!

54BS456 Wonderment is at #6! Now you can see why we are excited!

Weather mega milk, breed leaders for udders, feet and legs or productive life, these 4 deliver!

New On the Scene!

54BS410 ALLOY emerges as an elite production bull (#3 Milk at +1559, 83% Rel.) and is a solid +1.1 for type. Further, he is the first Dynasty son, and from a great, new cow family!

54BS415 SOLUTION is also new on the proven list and is the first Snickerdoodle son to be returned to active service! Balanced cows, with shallow udders, and a stout +806 milk.

Bulls on the Move!

54BS385 MONARCH is a bull which has not gotten due attention. He combines solid milk, good components with a DPR of +.6 and a growing Productive Life score. He is making the kind which will last and last.

54BS388 PACKAGE has now risen to +902 milk, with nearly a point in udder composite...a nice combination!

Watch for type information later today or in the morning. We will also be posting all our genomic results as it is available so be sure to bookmark and watch our web site for more information, including pictures.

New Generation Daughters UNMATCHED in Ohio! (06/09)

The action at the Starmark Sale held recently in Wooster, OH was hot, and New Generation Genetics sired some of the best Brown Swiss in the sale. New Generation daughters when compared to daughters from other studs were the top averaging group, gross and sired the most animals through the ring—the true trifecta. 18 out of the 46 lots were sired by NGG bulls; No other stud had half as many daughters that went through the sale ring. The average for New Generation daughters was $9,483 and the total gross was $170,700, representing nearly 50% of the gross of the entire Brown Swiss lineup! The numbers don’t lie; 6 out of the 8 highest selling animals were sired by NGG bulls which included daughters by LEGACY, Wonderment, DENVER, VIGOR, and Premium. We congratulate Wayne & Connie Sliker at Modern Associates for doing a great job with the sale and thank them for continuing to promote the Brown Swiss breed at the highest level.
